"Look, I came here by accident. I'm just trying to help. We can finish duking it out later."
Danny Fenton[src]

Chapter 1: Alienated is the first chapter of 5 Years Later.

Plot Summary[]

It's been five years since the Disasteroid struck Earth, and all law enforcement across the globe is now armed with Fenton Tech to help protect humanity from supernatural threats. This leads Danny Fenton to retire his heroics and help his father, Jack Fenton, continue his work on his newest passion-project: cross-dimensional travel.

After enough failed attempts to upgrade the Ghost Portal to view other worlds, Jack gives up his dream and spirals into a depression. Danny takes it upon himself to finish the project in hopes of restoring Jack’s happiness.

The upgrade is completed, and Danny takes the Specter Speeder through the portal as a test to make sure it works, in fear of disappointing his father. Danny ends up in the Null Void, and eventually runs out of power, parking the cruiser at the abandoned Rooter’s Base, unbeknownst to Danny of where he was.

Ben and Rook arrive on the scene after Danny accidentally sets off an alarm. Assuming Danny is an intruder, Ben transforms into Swampfire and begins to defend the Rooter’s base. The battle continues across the Null Void, which eventually attracts the attention of a Way Bad, putting the battle to a halt.

Danny and Ben team up to defeat the Way Bad, and Ben agrees to take Danny back to the Plumber Base until they figure out what to do with him.

Meanwhile, in Danny’s Universe, Vlad finally arrives at Earth after 5 years of being stranded in space.

Mythology[]

  • The first page is an abridged illustration of the Danny Phantom Theme Song.
  • This chapter takes place five years after Phantom Planet, the series finale of Danny Phantom. Tucker has since remained mayor, Danny's statues are showcased, and Vlad has only now returned from his banishment to space. The Disasteroid is also mentioned.
  • The Fenton Tech the police officers are now armed with resemble lower-grade Fenton Peelers.
  • Many references are made to the Rooters Arc from Ben 10: Omniverse, such as Proctor Servantis and his experimentation on children, Ben mistaking Danny for being one of those experiments, and the first half of the battle taking place in Servantis' old headquarters.
  • When Rook explains to Danny about the Mutant To'kustars being used to invade Earth before being sent to the Null Void, he is referring to the Ben 10: Omniverse episodes The Frogs of War.
  • When explaining the Plumbers to Danny, Ben calls them an Alien Police Force in reference to the second Ben 10 series Ben 10: Alien Force.

Differences From The Archaic Version[]

An event known as 5 Years Later: Recalibrated took place in preparation for the Motion Comic Counterpart, where Kuro went back and refurbished the first eleven chapters of the series. A large portion of the artwork was edited or completely redrawn. Many scenes were replaced, cut or extended. Dialogue was fine-tuned and rewritten, while most typos and grammar errors were corrected. Attributes that became standard to 5YL’s general art style were retroactively added in, such as a stronger difference between Ben’s lime green and Danny’s turquoise green, colored outlines and shading, refined facial features for most characters, square dialogue boxes, and the signature floating dots around ecto-energy. Every transformation used by Ben is now accompanied by an Information Hub, and each alien has colored text. While nearly every panel has been altered, these are the significant changes:

  • Danny elaborates on his parents being the world’s leading scientists in ecto-energy technology. To demonstrate this, Maddie Fenton is now holding the Ecto-Foamer, while Jack wields the Ghost Gauntlets.
  • Danny references a line from his show’s theme song “(He) could walk through walls… disappear… (and) fly…”
  • An extra page explores Danny’s backstory further. He explains how he was hunted by his parents who did not know he was half-ghost, and is shown fighting past versions of Ember and Technus. He then mentions how Vlad is his arch-enemy with similar powers, having his own accident twenty years ago.
  • An extra page continues Danny’s flashbacks, showing how Vlad tries to conquer his Earth during the Disasteroid incident, their secret identities were revealed, and Vlad is now missing.
  • Sam is now shown hosting an official Dead Have Lives Tour rally with Johnny’s band, opposed to a generalized protest.
  • The picture frame of Bunsen is now changed to a cameo of Fro’s Koala Avatar.
  • The Null Void was redesigned to have more atmospheric effects such as dust clouds and textured rocks.
  • Danny’s ship is now identified as the Specter Speeder.
  • The conversation between Ben and Rook when they first spot Danny was rewritten to clarify their motives. They now elaborate they were tracking Danny through his Ecto-Energy.
  • Danny has extra dialogue in his fight with Swampfire. He says “Gotta think fast” to himself before quipping to Swampfire “Haven’t you heard you shouldn’t light fires indoors? But, since you started it…”
  • Danny’s line “Okay. Showtime.” was changed to hyping himself up for the fight.
  • Swampfire’s surprised reaction changed from “What the-” to “Going wha--?”
  • Rook specifies that he is scanning “spectral traces” before guessing that Danny may be an Ectonurite.
  • The “petals” around Swampfire’s arms now cover his hand completely when he forms his bouquet of thorns and frees himself from the ice.
  • The “SLAM!” onomatopoeia when Danny is thrown against the wall was removed.
  • Rook and Swampfire’s conversation evaluating a captured Danny has been altered.
  • The “-inhale-” onomatopoeia before Danny’s Ghostly Wail was removed, along with the “Wooooooooo”  and “Crumble” onomatopoeia.
  • Echo Echo now quips “Mind if I invite some friends?”
  • Ben sarcastically responds “Oh, that one.” to his own rhetorical question upon seeing the Way Bad.
  • Rook’s Proto-Tool identifying Danny’s energy as “Ecto-Energy” was removed.
  • Ben and Danny’s exchange “Does it hurt them?/ Like Hell.” when discussing battling the Way Bad was changed to “What are you gonna do?/ Something cool.”
  • The Way Bad’s energy attack was redesigned.
  • Feedback’s dialogue instructing Danny to steer clear of his energy attack was altered.
  • The background behind Danny releasing his combo attack with Feedback was shifted from red to green.
  • Armodrillo now quips “Let’s shake things up!”
  • Danny affirms Ben that they’re cool instead of brushing it off.
  • Ben now begins asking Danny if he’s alright while still transformed as Armodrillo, then defaults to human mid-sentence.
  • In Danny’s wallet photo, Sam’s outfit is now purple with a few stripes rather than pure-black, and the background is now an original illustration opposed to a real-life photo.
  • Danny now comments about his dad’s inventions working “yet again.” The rest of his conversation with Ben has minor changes.
  • Rook now calls Blukic and Driba rather than Max Tennyson, though unlike Max, we don’t hear their response.
  • Danny no longer references Vlad’s assembled team “Masters Blasters,” along with the rest of his dialogue.
  • The location text now reads “Danny’s Dimension: Earth’s Atmosphere.”

Trivia[]

  • This chapter was released on Danny Phantom's 13th anniversary.
  • A desk Danny hides behind inside the Rooter's former headquarters resembles Proctor Servantis' face.
  • The panels displaying Vlad’s Accident are reused from And Beyond’s third episode, The Ghost Zone.
  • In Danny's opening monologue, Fro the Bro can be seen in the crowd as Vlad flies above them, revealing his identity.
