Vlad Masters

Vladimir Silver Masters[2] also known as Vlad Masters, or Vlad Plasmius is a Villain in 5 Years Later. He first appeared in Chapter 1: Alienated. He is a Half-Human/Half-Ghost from the planet Earth in the Danny Phantom Universe.

Appearance[]

In Human Form, due to a result of being infused with the ecto-acne, Vlad has had grey hair since the age of 22, and typically keeps it long. His eyes were blue but had turned black, with a thick outline around them, in both human and ghost form. He wears a black suit with a red handkerchief in his left breast pocket, and a matching red bolo tie.

In his Ghost Form, Vlad seems to resemble a vampire. Vlad is much more muscular and has sky-blue skin with pointed fangs. His eyes turn a glowing red, with no pupils. His hair is wild and tall, and now black with a silver stripe in the middle. He also has a black goatee. He wears a white uniform with black gloves and boots, and golden buttons and belt buckle. Lastly, he has high collar cape connected around his neck that is white on the outside and red on the inside.

In his Upgraded Suit, thanks to Technus, Vlad wears a muted-brick red, black, and white bodysuit. He has black and golden boots and gloves. His gloves sport a small red triangle on them. He also has a black belt with a golden letter 'V'. On his suit, there is a white stripe which comes up from his abdomen to his shoulders, forming a red 'V' across his chest. The 'V' turns purple when his Ecto-Cape is activated.

After Awakening, Vlad's appearance less resembles a vampire, and now resembles a demon. He now has longer and darker hair, with reddish brown spikes protruding from his elbows, knees and heels. He also has hair growing from his shoulder blades and collar bone, mimicking the shape of his old cape. He has a reddish-brown exposed-skull, with two horns and glowing red eyes. He has blue skin, with black skin from his upper torso down to his feet. He has a yellowish-white and red spot on his chest and stomach.

After consuming dark matter, Vlad evolved once more into Stage II. He now has additional spikes on his arms, with spikes now protruding from his shoulders. He has brown hair now growing from only his shoulder blades and his fingers have now become brown claws. The remaining blue from his body in his original Awakened form, has now faded, making his body almost completely black with only his lower jawline and ears remaining blue. The patterns on his chest and stomach have also changed, now resembling the symbol of the The Eyes of Sojourn.[1][3]

When Vlad returned from space, he seemed to be fed up with life. It seemed he didn't want to fight or join anyone, and just wanted to live his life as he did. All of this changed after he obtained his youth and strength once more. His will to live was replenished, and he immediately seemed to fall back into his old villainous ways.

After five long years of isolation and being given a new purpose in life, Vlad's rivalry with Danny has been rekindled. Much like when he and Danny first fought, Vlad has taken the time to note and point out Danny's growth and potential, and how it mirrors his own. In fact, Vlad constantly tells Danny that he should grow to be more like him. After learning of the true potential of Ecto-Energy, Vlad gains an obsession with the growth that he and Danny can undergo and reaching their true potential, embracing the state of mind that comes with Ecto-Awakening and becoming limitless in the process. Vlad's endgame in this respect has yet to be seen.

Ghost Powers[]

  • Hybrid Physiology- After being exposed to the Ghost Zone's energy through an unsteady Ghost Portal, Vlad developed ecto-acne, which eventually mutated him into a ghost/human hybrid, granting him Ghost powers.
    • Ghost Form- Like Danny, Vlad can transform between human and ghost at will. This manifests as black rings extending from his waist, then sweeping across his body. Unlike Danny he doesn't need a battle cry. While in his ghost form he can use all his ghost powers. He showed once that he can transform his eyes to glow red to use some of his ghost powers.
      • Awakened Form- Vlad can evolve his ghost form to its awakened state, every single ghost ability he has is presumed to have evolved also, becoming much more powerful than ever before With presumably no limits.
    • Intangibility- Vlad has the ability to phase through solid objects.
    • Invisibility- Vlad has the ability to turn invisible.
    • Flight- Vlad has the ability to fly.
    • Overshadowing- Vlad can overshadow people, controlling people's actions.
    • Ecto-Energy powers-
      • Ghost Ray- Vlad can shoot out his ecto-energy in the form of a blast.
        • Energy Strike- Vlad can channel ecto-energy through his fists to enhance his strength.
      • Ecto-Energy Constructs- Vlad can turn his ecto-energy into solid objects.
        • Ghost Shield- Vlad can use his ecto-energy to make a shield that can block or deflect attacks.
        • Ecto Cape- Vlad can create a cape made of ecto-energy for him to wear.
      • Ecto-Energy Absorption/Redirection- Vlad can absorb the ecto-energy of other ghosts and redirect it back at them.
      • Ghost Stinger- Vlad can send out his ecto-energy in the form of electricity.
      • Ghost Tornado- Vlad can spin himself at high speeds to create a tornado which can additionally generate gusts of wind and deflect incoming attacks.
      • Ghostly Wail- During his 5 Years in space, Vlad developed the Ghostly Wail. He can emit his ecto-energy through his vocal cords and create a sound wave to knock down/knock out opponents. Unlike Danny's and Dark Danny's, Vlad Ghostly Wail is purple and apparently doesn’t cause as much damage.
      • Atmokinesis- Vlad has the ability to control the Earth's weather. Vlad can summon lightning or turn part of his body into a cloud to mimic the weather.
    • Duplication- Vlad can spit his body into duplicates of himself.
    • Spectral Body Manipulation- Vlad can contort his body shape or form he desires.
    • Superhuman Strength- As a human-Ghost hybrid, Vlad is far stronger than both humans and even most ghosts. He was strong enough to block a punch from Four Arms and send him flying like it was nothing, and even make Danny bleed with his blows. He was also able to battle Ben as UltraViolent with little effort.
    • Superhuman Speed- Vlad can move at speeds comparable to Danny and other ghosts.
    • Superhuman Durability- Vlad is heavily resistant to physical attacks, able to survive being blasted by Danny's Ghostly Wail ability and by several of Ben's more powerful aliens, such as UltraViolent, without as much as a scratch. He was injured by Danny's Spectre Slicer, however, so he is clearly not invincible to all attacks.
    • Space Survivability- Vlad, like Danny, is able to survive unaided in the vacuum of space, and lived stranded in space for five years with no negative effects.
    • Shadow- Vlad can project one of his clones as a shadow that can phase through objects and energy which he cannot.
    • Shapeshifting- Vlad can shift his body into various shapes, such as changing his arm into a sword to battle Danny's Spectre Slicer and Future Fenton's builds.

Natural Abilities[]

  • High Intelligence- Vlad is one of the most intelligent people in his universe, possibly even more so than Maddie or Jack. He has created hundreds of high-tech ghost-related devices and equipment, created a secret lab better than the Fentons' lab, and improved the Ecto-Skeleton so the suit would not drain or kill the wearer. Furthermore, he managed to find a way to prevent anyone from knowing that he stole money from various businessmen and cover up his own evil deeds while serving as Mayor.
    • Master Strategist- Vlad has a cunning mind and, over the series, has developed complicated plans in order to get what he wants such as power or vengeance. However, most of them have been spoiled by Danny's interference and for underestimating his abilities and intelligence or even an unexpected problem. Furthermore, Vlad sometimes lets his ego get in the way resulting in him losing even when Danny was less experienced.
  • Gifted Businessman- Vlad is one of the most shrewd businessmen in the world, a trait that has earned him an immense fortune. However, he is not above using cutthroat tactics, unethical practices, and illegal operations to maintain the success of his business empire; he has admitted to overshadowing other businessmen.
  • Experienced Combatant- Vlad is considerably skilled in hand-to-hand combat, as his powers enable him to execute punches and kicks with superhuman force against his opponents. This mostly due to the fact that he has had 20 years of experience, having his powers. He is able to hold his own with his battle with Danny. He was considerably more skilled than Danny in their first battle, effortlessly overwhelming Danny and knocking him out cold. He also held his own against Ben, a skilled fighter in his own right, and even got the better of him during both of their encounters.
    • Swordsmanship- Vlad demonstrates some ability with the sword when fighting Danny and Ben.

Weaknesses[]

Original Ghost Form[]

  • Anti-Ghost Weapons- In Vlad’s ghost form, the anti-ghost weapons make him vulnerable. Some knock him unconscious, leading him to revert back to his human form. Others just limit his abilities or remove them.
  • Ecto-Ranium- Vlad is unable to touch substances made of Ecto-Ranium, which repels ghosts.
  • Blood Blossoms- If Vlad is in the presence of Blood Blossoms he will be rendered powerless and will undergo great pain.
    • In his Awakening Form, Vlad's vulnerability to basic Ghost Tech, Ecto-Ranium, and Blood Blossoms are surpassed.

Awakening Form[]

  • Morality- Due to a hard life, Vlad is under the full impression that he is only doing what is best for him, because no one else will. This causes him to selfishly commit his life to what many deem as Evil.
  • Danny's Belt- Because Danny's Specter Slicer Awakens with him, his sword can still hurt Vlad.

Early Life and Ghost Portal Accident[]

Vlad used to be lab partners with Jack and Maddie Fenton when he was 22 years old. One day Jack tested his Ghost Portal right in front of Vlad's face. The resulting blast of Ecto-Energy infected Vlad with Ecto-acne, and infused his DNA with ghost DNA, turning him into a Half-Human/Half-Ghost. Vlad hated Jack Fenton ever since the accident, and ever since Jack starting dating Maddie, whom he also had feelings for.[4][1]

Obtaining his Ghost Costume[]

Unlike Danny, Vlad's first outfit wasn't just an altered version of what he was wearing during his accident. Vlad's first outfit was given to him by a Ghostly Warlock during Vlad's early ventures to the Ghost Zone after first obtaining his powers. The outfit is a high-ranking uniform worn long ago by a secret society of monks that would worship spirits in hopes of obtaining magical abilities. The tribe has been extinct for at least a century (maybe more), with a good chunk of its members currently residing in the Ghost Zone. Vlad came across the cult and trained with them for years, learning about his powers and the culture of the Ghost Zone. After "graduating" from learning the ways of the spirit worshipers, he was awarded these garbs to show his acceptance as one of them. But he was soon banished from ever returning to the part of the Ghost Zone where the Warlocks reside after word got out of Vlad's criminal actions over in the Human world. Vlad still thinks about his years of training with the Warlocks, and how peculiar their name was... The Eyes of Sojourn.[1]

Before 5 Years Later[]

After the Disasteroid crisis, Vlad was hurtled into the void of space. Vlad survived because he was a Halfa, something neither he or Danny knew at the time would give them resistance to the Disasteroid. The Disasteroid kept pushing Vlad deep into space, where he was lost and isolated, aimlessly floating around trying to find his way home, slowly mastering his powers during the time.[4][5]

5 Years Later[]

  • In Chapter 1: Alienated (Page 56), he finally arrived at Earth after five years of floating in space.
  • In Chapter 2: The Lonely Ghost (Page 7-25), he arrives at his old mansion, where he joins Eon after promises of power.
  • In Chapter 3: Reunion (Page 3-50), he has a fight with Danny and Ben, which results in him being pinned down by Gravattack. Before Danny can ask him questions, Eon comes and freezes time, and the two go through a dimensional rift.
  • In Chapter 4: The Fallen Gods (Page 9-25), he and Eon meet up with Technus and Dr. Animo. After Eon tells his backstory and the next part of his plans, Technus gives Vlad a new costume because his old one was destroyed after the fight with Danny and Ben.
  • In Chapter 6: Weightless (Page 7-39), Vlad fought off Danny and Ben while Zim drained the power of a Dwarf Star.
  • In Chapter 7: Fold (Page 20-29), Eon explains to Vlad why he asked for his help, saying that Vlad, being a part ghost, has tremendous powers that most ghosts (including Danny and Vlad) are not even aware of
  • In Chapter 8: Risen (Page 34-38), Vlad holds off Danny while the Godmaker continues to turn Eon into the ultimate being.
  • In Chapter 9: Time Out (Page 12-30), Vlad battles Danny in a temporal void, revealing to Danny the power that he and Danny possess as Ghosts. To demonstrate, Vlad transforms into a new, stronger Ghost Form that easily overpowers Danny, but he is rescued by Ben and Future Fenton.
  • In Chapter 10: Again (Page 1-32), Vlad uses image clones to distract and wear down Danny, Future Fenton, and Ben. After they flee due to Divinity's power, a flashback is shown back in the Keshawn Desert of him and Eon discussing how they will kill Ben. Later, he and Divinity continue to battle the trio.
  • In Chapter 11: Shattered (Page 6-43), Vlad battles Danny and Ben alongside Technus after Divinity mysteriously vanishes from a coordinated attack by the heroes. During the battle, Vlad is trapped in dark matter by Ben as Full Stop. Vlad quickly escapes, consuming the dark matter and evolving into his Awakening Stage II form. He then quickly traps Danny in the dark matter and continues to battle Ben and later the Orion Squad members Lula, Crawnch, and GoTro in their Orion Knight formation. Vlad immediately gets attacked by Danny, now enraged in his Phantom Fury form upon escaping his dark matter prison.
  • In Chapter 12: Unleashed (Pages 3-54), Vlad is mercilessly beaten by an enraged Phantom Fury Danny. After an onslaught of attacks that beat Vlad into disfigurement, he finally catches a moment to slip away and tell Danny that he just wants what's best for him. The two half-ghosts trade more blows, as Vlad proclaims that Danny's allies do not need his help, right as he inflicts a grievous injury on Danny with his laser eyes. He reaches out, asking Danny to allow him to show him his true potential, and he agrees, just before the two are interrupted by Lula, GoTro, and Future Fenton. After a struggle on both sides to attempt to reach out to Danny, he goes berserk yet again, tearing reality apart and trapping Vlad and the others in a stasis effect to get everyone to stop fighting over him.
